“I like the feeling of living in this city, belonging to it and having my own corners”.
Uploading photos on websites is a favorite pastime of Hanoian young men. An amateur photographer, an actor/actress, and a little time and effort are enough to form a team for taking beautiful photos. “Photographers” do everything spontaneously: from finding ideal places for taking photos such as a lotus pond, a leafy street, a corner of a usual café to record all of their surroundings. Beside amateur photo takers, some young men such as Maika, Lukas and Antoni Blue have become famous in the photography career.
Teenagers connect with each other through meetings in usually very crowded spaces. Pavements today are not simply places to quench one’s thirst, but destinations for a rest, a chat or a work meeting for those who like comfort. The popularity of certain pavement areas has been on the rise since the beginning of the year, in locations near the Cathedral, Trang Tien, and Dao Duy Tu, serving little more than simple lemon tea.
Hanoian youth are also changing their leisure culture, and the culture of bars and pubs is developing rapidly. The need of listening to popular music, meeting common friends, drinking beer and dancing is becoming a legitimate demand of bar and pub passionates. In addition to this, lounges with Arabian Sheesha hubble-bubble and elegant belly-dance have also been appearing, at places like Fusion, Dragonfly and Funky Buddha.
“Work extremely, play wholeheartedly” is the modern style of successful young men. They are willing to put in a hard days work and then spend some time winding down. After hard working hours, they take part in many entertainment programs such as watching a movie, listening to music or going to cafés with friends. Some of them also participate in yoga, dance or belly-dance classes. Many young managers co-operate to build fashion shops or stylish cafés.
Another trend for those who like to discover new lands and people throughout the country is backpacking. This trend has attracted crowds of people with the same interest. Young men travel to remote and mountainous areas and bring with them knowledge and kind hearts to help people in small villages. Instead of going only across the country, they also explore many landscapes of countries in the ASEAN community.
“Living is not waiting”, they are developing plans for Hanoi only.
“Hanoi, I love you” is a short film project directed by lovers of Hanoi. You can share your love with Hanoi by taking your phone and dialing to talk about your love stories.
The 3D Hanoi group was founded with the idea of painting Hanoi by 3D techniques with the aim of reminding people of ancient Hanoi. Nguyen Thuy Duong – manager of 350 Vietnam clubs with the project “Green buds sponsor”, planted 1000 green trees for the capital; Hoang Hoa Trung – head of Humane Card. Hanoi’s beauty spots are enclosed on cards by disabled children. All of them share the same purpose of manifesting “something” of their homeland.
Each person has their own way to express “something”. Maybe it’s a small feeling of love for one of the corners of Hanoi where they were born and grew up. That is the best way to express yourself: dare to love and dare to do.
